Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is the first airport in Indonesia who get a Greenship certificate at the GOLD level from Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI). YIA is designed in a modern architectural style, with its exterior and interior designs still reflecting Yogyakarta culture. The passenger terminal with an area of 219,000 m² has a capacity of 20 million passengers per year or 11 times larger than Adisutjipto Airport which only has a capacity of 1.6 million passengers per year. For air side facilities, this airport runway can accommodate large aircraft such as Boeing B-777 and Airbus A380. The construction of YIA received an award from the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI) as the airport with the fastest operation.
Full glass façade design with laminated Low-E glass 8 mm Sunergy Green + 0.78 PVB + 6 mm Planible, are designed to prepare for and mitigate the potential impacts of a tsunami, also to maximize natural light and outside view. The Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV) calculation results are 38.40 watts/ m², 32.28% net lettable area with a minimum of 300 lux of natural light intensity, and 83.51% net lettable area with outside view. Passenger terminal accessibility planning is universally designed to make it easier for people with disabilities, the design is equipped with a guiding block, ramp, and parking for the disabled.
High performance watercooled centrifugal chiller 800 TR x 8 units (7 duty + 1 standby) with COP 6.81, energy-saving lighting with Lighting Power Density 2.95 watt/m², and sleep mode for escalator and travellator are reduce the building’s energy use by a quarter. Water savings reach 53.01%, are obtained by the use of water-efficiency sanitary unit as much as 88.67% of the total sanitary unit, recylced water from black and greywater recycling system, and condensate water and rainwater as alternative clean water resources. Recycling water is used for make-up water for cooling towers and landscape irrigation. The quality of recycling water has met the quality standards based on the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 32 of 2017.
The zero rainwater runoff system is applied to the landside area as an effort to control floods by using rainwater storage tanks, long storage, and retention ponds. To protect the environment and to reduce construction waste, the building used environmentally-friendly construction materials such as ISO 14001 certified material, recycled content material, prefabrication material, local material, and regional material.
